When Do Streaming Royalties Arrive? How Royalty Reporting Works

One of the most common questions after a release is: "I can see streams, so why is my balance still empty?" The answer is that streaming platforms do not pay in real time. Here is how royalty reporting works and what to expect.
Streams first, reports later
When someone plays your song, the platform records the stream. The money for that stream is calculated later, after the platform closes its accounting period, adds up subscription and advertising revenue and works out how much each recording earned. Only then does it send a royalty report to your distributor.
Because of this, earnings often arrive weeks or months after the activity happens. Each platform has its own reporting schedule, so royalties from different stores can arrive at different times.
Why the numbers can differ
- Real-time counters are estimates. Play counts shown in apps update quickly, while financial reports are final figures that can arrive much later.
- Not every play pays the same. Payment per stream depends on the platform, the listener's country and whether they use a free or paid plan.
- Some plays are filtered. Platforms remove streams they consider invalid or artificial, and those plays are not paid.
- Adjustments happen. Platforms sometimes correct earlier reports, which can change a later statement.
Where to see your earnings
In your SpaceMedia account you can see your available earnings, revenue history and performance information as platform data is received. If a platform has not reported yet, its earnings will appear once the report arrives and has been processed.
When you can request a payout
You can request a payout once your available balance reaches 25 EUR and your payout details are saved. Taxes, currency conversion and payment fees may apply depending on your country and payout method.
How to estimate what you might earn
Use our free streaming royalties calculator to get a rough idea of earnings for a number of streams. Treat it as an estimate: real payouts depend on where and how people listen.
Protect your royalties
- Never buy streams or use services that promise guaranteed plays. Artificial streams can be removed and can lead to releases being taken down.
- Keep your payout details up to date.
- If you collaborate, set up royalty splits before the money starts arriving.

Most major streaming services do not let every artist upload music directly. A distributor like SpaceMedia delivers your audio, artwork, metadata, and rights information to supported platforms so your release can appear on services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, TikTok, and others.
Create an account, choose the plan that fits your needs, upload the final release files, review the details, and submit. SpaceMedia reviews Free submissions within 5 business days, Premium submissions within 2 business days, and Label submissions within 1 to 2 business days. Store publishing happens afterwards.

With SpaceMedia, you can manage releases, artist details, earnings, and payout information from your account. All standard plans let users keep 100% of standard DSP royalties.
The Free plan lets artists release music without an upfront distribution fee and keep 100% of standard DSP royalties.
This gives new artists a way to start releasing music before paying for a yearly plan. Premium and Label add more primary-artist capacity and tools. All standard plans include 100% of standard DSP royalties.
Ja.
