After spending years in the YouTube mashup game, Melbourne musician Sam Beros wanted to delve into producing sounds with a more unique style. Harvesting a love for cutesy videogame soundtracks, he set out on a mission to blend those sounds with the catchiness of all the good pop music. Thus, in the midpoint of 2015, Gallagath was born. After a couple of web exclusives, Gallagath dropped debut album Colours in March 2017. Later in the year came Colours II, a more eccentric counterpart to the first. May 2018 saw the release of Veracity, the first album to feature his signature tuned vocal production, while still harboring the playful ambient instrumentalia of his first two releases. Eighteen months later came the release of the confessional Reflections. After a lockdown-sized break, 2022 album Abnormal Nocturnal touched upon the depressive haze of internet-fuelled isolation, seeing his vocoded, game-inspired sound delve into the extended universe of hyperpop. 2023's Daylight soothed in the other direction. After a pandemic, a truckload of existential anxiety, and a newfound craving for dystopian absurdity, Gallagath’s newest album The Future Is Now, Old Man! sees him as sharp a writer as ever – with left turns at every direction, it brings a silliness only matched by its humanity and hooks. When not doing Gallagath things, Sam also spends his time pressing down piano keys for the fast-rising alternative rock band The Clever References.
