Amps Kill's aggressive, monolithic music challenges conventions and pushes boundaries with its sound, which is focused on texture and intensity over more traditional melodic and harmonic approaches. A collision of formal training and noise-orientated post-industrial experimentation, Amps Kill is helmed by classically-trained composer and improviser Stephen Bailey. Following the tumultuous events of 2020, Bailey altered the course of his career to embrace a compositional output as Amps Kill that felt more honest, expressive, and true to his views of the declining state of the world. A self-described "refugee of the classical music world," Bailey is the former director of the award-winning, avant-garde chamber group Nebula Ensemble and half of the aggrotech industrial duo Offerings to Odin. Influenced by these experiences, as well as artists within doom metal, noise, and mandible, Bailey’s broad and varied musical experiences contribute to a cohesive sound that is relentlessly intense and thoughtful, a fitting cumulation of a comprehensive history in experimental music.
