"Dean Bentley lives next to a cemetery. A lot of people might have used that as an excuse to make dull, vaguely ghostly music and bleat on about atmosphere, ambience and the vibes of being around such a place. With Dean, you only really know if you’ve ever spent time around his Lidget Green home – which you certainly will have done if you spent the early years of your life attending the school next to the graveyard. But rather than looking around at his West Yorkshire roots, Dean – who works under the moniker Hourglass Sea – spends his time making electronica that is, frankly, bizarre, and looking towards the west coast of America. Lets be honest, music scenes rarely die, they're usually bettered. So whilst chillwave still lives on, it's difficult to take it seriously when there's something as jaw droppingly excellent as Hourglass Sea just a click away. Coming out of a scene in Bradford, that is pretty much non-existent, Dean Bentley is almost peerless. Combining electronic bombast with live distorted guitar, and an ear for a sample, this is one of the true innovative sounds to emerge of the past five years."
