Born in Brooklyn, New York to a mother of Jamaican descent , YG comes from a family of five brothers and one sister. His multicultural heritage afforded him the appreciation of a wide variety of music which to date influences his sound. YG officially stumbled upon music in the Fifth grade while taking Chorus. Though at first he admitted joining just to get out of class, soon he realized that he had a natural knack for music. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that he actually took it seriously, thinking to himself all the while that perhaps he just wasn’t good enough to be noticed. But the feedback from everyone who heard his music was unanimous, he needed to get out there and be heard, so he hit the studio and before long, magic began to be made. YG found his voice, developed and perfected his sound and realized that he could very well go somewhere with this. Proof of that was seen in 2012 when he was featured on New York rapper Uncle Murda’s hot summer track “Take it off”. The song turned heads, getting significant airplay on major stations like Hot 97 & Power 105. As the saying goes: nothing before it’s time. It is now time for YG the Great to be heard. “Something I Forgot to Mention” promises to be the full R&B experience featuring real life renditions of love, life and heartbreak with his own special twist. With influences like Usher, Sanchez, Barrington Levy, Shaggy and the Great Michael Jackson, YG promises that his unorthodox style is certainly worth the wait.
