Start it all again!—P is for Ponies by Ponies. Of course we all love Ponies, but why? Could it be that they’re stranger than fiction? I mean with names like Aitch (pronounced “H”), Geoffrey Jellineck, Galactic Citizen, Sonny Cher and strangest of all, Matt Dieckman, you might think they were straight out of an episode of “Teen Titans,” but they’re not. They are, in fact, very real people. So real that they’ll bombard your senses with two bassists, multiple vocalists and matching outfits. What’s behind the Ponies moniker? “It’s the least tough name we could come up with,” says bassist/vocalist Geoffrey Jellineck. Simple enough. “The idea is that a short name is good because you write it bigger on flyers,” says Sonny Cher, fellow bassist/vocalist. “At the time of the moniker naming there was this guy in town who called everybody that was cool ‘pony’ like, ‘You’re so pony.’” Could it be that most every Ponies show is guaranteed to be a veritable riot of spontaneity, dance mayhem, as well as a hot, sweaty catastrophe of hipster localism? They’re so beyond cool that an entire genre of music must be created to encompass them. That genre is “duh wave.” <br>
