Pranay Verma is an independent artist from Delhi, with roots in 70s rock and blues music. Playing since the age of 9, he has learnt from several guitarists including Sonam sherpa of Parikrama. Growing up, he listened to all sorts of music ranging from led zeppelin and pink Floyd to Indian classical music to progressive rock artists like Plini and periphery to contemporary Indian music by AR Rahman. His sister, Diya Verma is a vocalist with a soft yet powerful voice, inspired by singers such as Phoebe Bridgers and Stevie nicks. This brother sister duo released their debut single titled ‘Voices’ on October 8, 2020. It is based around the central idea of confronting your bitter past rather than running away from it. ‘Voices’ has a dark and haunting vibe, incorporating huge percussion and various orchestral elements, which form a big part of Pranay’s “sound”. Pranay and Diya have some exciting stuff lined up for the rest of the year, including their next release titled ‘Novel’. Some solo prog rock based projects can be expected from Pranay in the near future as well.
