From the latter half of the '90s through the early 2010s, Truls Heggero was the frontperson of Lukestar, a post-hardcore band that rose to prominence in their native Norway and, at the peak of their popularity, won a 2008 Spellemannprisen, regarded as Norway's equivalent to a Grammy. During that period, Heggero also led the one-album act Truls and the Trees. Upon the split of Lukestar, Heggero went solo as simply Truls, signed to Parlophone, and moved toward a more production-oriented sound that fused modern R&B and pop. "Out of Yourself," the otherworldly lead single from his Norwegian Top Ten debut solo album TRVLS, was nominated for a 2013 Spellemannprisen in the category of "This Year's Hit" but lost, perhaps inevitably, to Ylvis' "The Fox."
