South of Boundary is a Baltimore-based dance music production duo featuring Sam Hopkins (Balagan) and Steve Winkler (Stevepossible). Building on nearly four decades of combined DJing experience, including their monthly Friday Night Magic party at Baltimore melting pot The Crown, South of Boundary was born in 2017 through collaborative sessions fusing elements like Steve’s Talk Box and Sam’s live drumming. They broke into dance charts with their debut The Magic EP on Global Diplomacy, featuring their original tracks “I Know What You Like” and “TomDumm.” “I Know What You Like” is a moody and groovy synth-driven song featuring guest vocals from Janice B. in addition to the SoB pair on vox. TomDumm is a party track that pulsates and amuses, ready to be the “Din Daa Daa” of the 2020s. Strong remixes from Global Diplomacy label head and Afro-house power N’Dinga Gaba and Tel Aviv’s Nenor round out the release. South of Boundary has been prolific at home in Baltimore and through WhatsApp-driven collaborations with artists in Brazil, Brooklyn, and elsewhere. The next release is slated for Summer 2021.
