Kiana Del is a passionate creative and educator whose art focuses on activism and community. As a vocalist, she weaves in and out of many different genres, but her primary focus is jazz. She chose jazz, because it was the first connection she made to her culture. To her, jazz and the blues are aural representations of our complex humanity. As well as singing backup for a handful of popular local acts such as Casey Powell, Carly Johnson, and Phourist & The Photons, Del is the founder and lead vocalist of jazz ensemble Kiana & the Sun Kings. With the Sun Kings, she does some songwriting and arranging. Her work relies heavily on collaboration with her beloved bandmates, and she is continuously striving to craft safe spaces in which musicians can create freely without judgment.
