SHE, YORK is a singer-songwriter project by Sarah Clavadetscher, raised in the Romansh-speaking region of Switzerland. The project began in the year of 2013, growing quietly behind closed doors until it was released to the public as her debut album “In Sean’s Room” in the spring of 2016. It was in a child’s room - of a boy named Sean - in a house downtown Toronto, when Sarah decided to leave the “playroom” and share her music with the public. This room became a symbol for all rooms that were important for SHE, YORK and her musical “playing”. Another point of reflection became the melancholy that surrounds Sarah’s feelings of her own childhood in Val Lumnezia, a valley nestled in the mountains of southeastern Switzerland. The songs from “In Sean’s Room” in English and Romansh are a mirror image of the protagonist’s perceptions of everyday life, which mingle with fantasy to create new realities. A touch of Nordic melancholy blends into tender and exotic sounds of guitar, ukulele and charango. In the summer of 2016, SHE YORK’s first concert tour accompanied by musical collaborator Patrick Arteaga from Toronto met a positive response in the media as the duo performed in private spaces, highlighting the theme of a child’s room. Audiences came together in the intimate atmospheres of gardens, living rooms and backyards to become part of Sarah’s musical world. Public concerts were accompanied by a video projection allowing the audience to dive into the visual world of SHE, YORK.
