Having a strong interest in music since he was 8 years old, he started by snatching his mother’s records while she was at work during her second shift job. “Basically my mom would leave and the second I would hear her car pull away, I would take her records and scratch them up on her turntable.” In addition to his late night practice sessions, Corey began to model his turntablist style by watching the earlier DMC battles on VHS tapes. Priding himself on being a historian of his craft has led him to become one of the midwest’s fastest rising talents. Corey has had projects featured on 2dopeboyz, Afro Punk, Do Androids Dance, Live For The Funk, Live Mixtapes, Kevin Nottingham, Leak Jones, Radio Big Boy, Fact Mag, among others. In 2013, Corey Grand won Scene Magazine’s Best DJ Award, and has also been named as a finalist in the 2012 Complex/McDonalds flavor battle as well as a finalist in Red Bull’s 3Style DJ Competition. In addition to being a premier event DJ and music producer, Corey Grand started his tenure as a Radio One on-air mixer in 2013 and has been featured on several Radio One stations throughout his time--including a current residency as mixer of “Micah’s Mix @ 3 with Corey Grand” on WCKX (Columbus) as well as the daily “Afterschool Mix with Corey Grand” on WIZF (Cincinnati). Corey also plays at noon M-Friday on WZAK and the weekends on WENZ.
