He won the Best Composer and Best Arranger awards at the 2020 AIM Chinese Music Awards for his singles “Run, Run” and “Unknown Identity.” Later that year, he released his debut solo self- titled album Ryota Katayama, which was recognized as one of the Top Ten Albums of the Year at the 14th Freshmusic Awards. In 2023, he composed the film score and theme song for the film Abang Adik. The theme song, “A Walk To Remember,” was nominated for Best Original Film Song at the 60th Golden Horse Awards, where Ryota was also invited to perform as guest. In 2024, this song earned him the Best Song Producer award at the 35th Golden Melody Awards, later this year, his work for Abang Adik also won the Best Original Score at the Cambodia Asian Film Festival.
