Paul Burnell (born 1960, Ystrad, South Wales) is a London based composer and musician. Many of his compositions can be found on his albums: ‘Leaving the Party on Pluto’, ‘Good to Go’, ‘Sticking with Childish Things’, ‘Face Each Aged Ache’, ‘Cabbage Heads’, ‘Acute Suites’, 'Accompanied Readings Vols 1 & 2' ,'Griff Said Ruff' , 'So (Not) to Speak' and, in 2024: ‘Woodland So Brightly’ After studying music at Dartington College of Arts, Exeter University and Royal Holloway College, he took a ten-year break, returning to concentrate on composition in the 1990s. He has received commissions from festivals, Summer Schools, ensembles and professional musicians in the UK and abroad, including: the Bath International Music Festival, Inchcholm New Music Ensemble, CoMA, Chris Brannick, the Stanesby Players, the Duruflé Trio, Bella Tromba, and other pieces for choir, string orchestra, piano (and toy piano), and recorder groups. In 2016 an album with pianist James Bacon was released and the composition ‘Four Minutes – Four Daydreams’ was included on the London Sinfonietta album ‘Open Score’. In 2018 'A Birthday' won the Leatherhead Choral Society composition competition and harpist Irantzu Agirre Arrizubieta premiered 'Robot Picking Blackb'ries'. 2019 premieres were given by Hannah Cresswell (flute) & Constance Chow (piano), Jordan Wright Murray (percussion) and CoMA East Midlands Ensemble. In 2022 CoMA Singers premiered 'December Air' and 'So (Not) To Speak'.
