New Jersey artist Merkeba approaches hip hop as a writer at heart. Growing up with a love of language and firm understanding of the political, spiritual, and therapeutic power of art, Merkeba uses hip hop as a tool to help navigate the vast and complicated world (دُنْيا) we live in. His poetic raps combine introspection and sharp lyricism with a signature rugged charisma and embrace of melody. A student of music of all genres, Merkeba imbues his rap music with influence from jazz, neo-soul, Carribbean music, and spoken word poetry to create forward thinking work. A protege of acclaimed Detroit artist Rob Apollo, Merkeba made his first appearance on the former’s 2020 album Accords, before making his solo debut with the single “Desperado”. In 2022, Merkeba and Rob Apollo released their full length collaboration "Don't Get Brave". This album, distinct from his solo offerings, showcased the two artists’ versatility over a canvas of hard hitting and sonically adventurous beats by producers CUTMAN Xay, Nova Blu, and van ill. Merkeba's latest project to date has been 2022's "no gods no masters", an EP of 5 demos which reflect his first forays into songwriting. Tracks such as "starter" and "coogi" have become cherished by Merkeba's growing fanbase. Since the EP's release, Merkeba has appeared on albums from Teatea and No Label's Funk Shway, and released Soundcloud exclusive singles such as "Isadora" He is currently crafting his debut album, which will be entirely self produced.
