Blooming in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania since 2019, Samurae creates introspective imagery with witty wordplay and cohesive melodies. Transmuting emotions from the episodes of life into poems or music, she connects to the people from many different angles. Growing up as the black sheep in a musical family, she grew to find who she was individually throughout the years with the push of troubling experiences. Learning her voice singing with her mother as a young girl then using that voice to act in theatrical plays in school and church solidified her love for performing arts. Loving music so much, she also picked up the skill of playing the drums in her church and school drum-line. Rooted in soul, Samurae’s sound is inspired by artists such as Jill Scott, Corrine Bailey Rae and Musiq Soulchild - adding an alternative edge with inspiration from Missy Elliott and XXXTENTACION. By example, she encourages listeners to own their uniqueness. Staying true to her core values - having a strong spirit and holding gratitude for the things money can’t buy.
