Tristan de Liège is a Belgian electronic/downtempo artist currently based in Los Angeles, California. de Liège's work explores the feels of nostalgia and wistful exhilaration from exploring new places and rediscovering old ones. He aims to seek beyond genre to find the common ground of texture and space in music, while taking cues and inspiration from as many sources as possible, from jazz to classical to West African folk music and Indonesian gamelan.
He also writes and produces as Thoma alongside Benjamin Hill (Cuervo Cuervo), a project centered around interactions between synths, sequencers, and live percussion instruments.
Tristan has completed 9 solo albums: Refractions, Usawa, Maisha, Kosame, The Diver, Everything We Are, Tamalpais, Into the Bloom, and Frontiers, each with their own feel, inspirations, and cast of guest musicians.
The neoclassical experiments that Tristan explored with his Tethys project have continued into 2021 with a collaborative album with violinist Gregory Allison, entitled A Light for Dark Moments on Gregory's newly created Holy Volcano label.
Thoma returned with new material in late 2021, Ikiru, which showcases cinematic strings and woodwinds arrangements. In 2023 they released "Pictures of Infinity," a playful album serving as a tribute to their childhood memories in Oklahoma.
