Rizik is the creative project of Los Angeles-based musician, producer, and live performer Hisham Dahud, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who transforms a deep inspiration from cinema, the cosmos, and the intricacies of the human experience into immersive musical journeys. Known for his transformative shift from behind-the-scenes industry veteran to pioneering artist, Hisham spent over a decade collaborating with legends like Richie Hawtin, DJ Shadow, and Junkie XL. Despite this rich experience, he felt an undeniable pull to create his own music. “Living in the periphery of music was draining my spirit,” he reflects. “I was playing it safe, caught in what I now recognize as a ‘shadow career.’ I had to take the leap and forge my own path.” This realization led to the birth of Rizik, a project dedicated to exploring the fragility and wonder of existence, the courage to step beyond societal boundaries, and the beauty of self-discovery. The name “Rizik,” meaning “blessing” in Arabic, symbolizes Hisham’s commitment to fully embracing his creative potential and inspiring others to do the same. Rizik’s sound combines lush, emotional melodies and merges them with electronic elements to craft music that resonates on both intimate and expansive levels. Fueled by a curiosity for live performance as a compositional approach, Hisham uses his live setup to blur the lines between performance and creation, inviting listeners into a process as dynamic and alive as the music itself.
