Young rivals turned devoted friends, Clayton Dean (Of the Vine) and James Merritt (Gordan, Sombered) formed Hymnal Moths as a recording project and occasional live act in late 2014. The multi-instrumentalists released their debut album No Spirit a year later, presenting a Southern Gothic folk sound blended with elements of early post-rock.
