Ellroy (Leuven, Belgium) is an indie rock outfit led by singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Wim Janssens (Golden Hours, Joy Wellboy, Tricky,…), currently based in Berlin.
Back in 1997 Wim started writing and recording songs on a Fostex four-track recorder and produced hundreds of demos mostly on his own as a one-man band or with the help of former band member Gaëtan Vandewoude (Isbells).
After a few months of digging and learning the ropes through trial and error, he came up with a sound that set Ellroy apart from the pack. In the music of Ellroy; new wave, blues, post punk and country meet electronic elements and experimental rhythms that create an individual universe far from pop’s arbitrary boundaries.
There’s a willingness to experiment and a love for all things analog and Wim’s baritone to tie it all together.
In 2005 Wim recorded Ellroy’s debut album
“Sun Circus” at his home studio in Pellenberg (BE) and signed with Munich Records that released the record to great acclaim in March 2006.
After recording the follow up album in 2008 the band was put on hold.
In 2023-24 Ellroy releases a series of tracks that fell through the cracks, all recorded between ‘97-‘23.
“Lost Tapes (Pt.1)” came out in May ‘23 and Pt.II & III will follow in ‘24.
Ellroy’s sophomore album; “Everything Is Broken” will follow in 2025, and they will finally tour again after a long hiatus.
