Born in Aotearoa (New Zealand), Wiremu Hohaia is a visual artist, producer and DJ with a background in sensory neuroscience. Wiremu is currently based in Germany. “Mechanoreceptor is a project I use to explore a semi-fictional world I call the Aviary. Here, sound is offered as a direct translation of the visual features, often interpreting such phenomena and objects as ceramic dust snowfall, bronze statues, light reflectance, and crystallised wind. As an artist, I enjoy romanticising the relationship between light and the objects it meets. Imagining how this relationship exists in purely auditory space satisfies my curiosity further.” - from the artist.
