This phrase has become thematic centre-point for much of KIRPAL's music with the exploration of the dynamics between expectation and reality in relationships. These are tales of desire, disappointment, delight, and despair. KIRPAL's most recent work has evolved into a more accessible interpretation of these themes, taking inspiration from the 80s and its retrowave revival, indie pop, and progressive/melodic house music. While it retains the depth and sweeping atmospheric sounds of the earlier days, the new era of KIRPAL ushers in more danceable and night-driveable sounds. KIRPAL was raised in the UK, later moving to New York, and then settling in Toronto. His background in woodwinds and symphonic orchestras built a solid foundation in the arrangement side of music and his stint living in Singapore and studying under the unofficial poet laureate Kirpal Singh (from whom his stage name comes) built up his writing chops.
