French-born, Belgium-based Don Rimini/Jackin Trax’s split personality collaboration on Rekids’ Rekids Special Projects imprint aptly focuses on jacking techno marked by effective vocal sampling and layers of immaculate groove. Bunkaball label owner Don Rimini kicks things off with ‘Ruthless Boogie’, a four-to-the-floor burner featuring hip-hop verses and soulful harmonizations. The ‘Jack In The Box’ EP is a true display of funk, ‘Booty Ride’ picking up the pace through driving rhythm and a hooky sample while ‘Get-O-Matic’ enters with additional cut-up vocals and weighty piano stabs. ‘On The Floor’ keeps the dancefloor moving with tumbling drums and more hypnotic sampling before ‘Gotcha!’ brings distorted bleeps, energetic rides and punchy snares to close out the EP.
