Producer/DJ J-U was a hidden gem of the Korean hiphop scene during its emergence in the mid 90s. He spent his youth in Germany where his parents were pursuing a higher education. This is where he experienced hiphop culture and came in contact with graffiti, breakdancing, and music production. He came back to Korea in 1996, and began to make himself known in the Shinchon & Hongdae area where hiphop was starting to become popular. Park Myung Ho of Honey Family recognized his talent, and they soon began to make records together. J-U’s collaboration with Honey Family put his name on the map. Various artists would reach out to him for his production. His most notable collaborations were that with Master Plan and Garion. J-U also made a successful career as a DJ. He would go back and forth from Seoul and Busan to throw events and contribute to the explosion of hiphop culture in Korea. His most recent work was with DON MALIK. He co-produced DON MALIK’s album with bababa and produced 5 tracks on the album. Now in 2022, after two years of production with the help of fellow artists and friends, J-U presents “Scrapbook Pt.I” In this release J-U proves to be a versatile artist that leads the flow of hiphop and music in Korea.
