William Matthews III (he/him) is a multi-disciplinary Artist x Advocate offering hope to anyone on the margins between doubt and faith. As the first solo artist signed to Bethel Music in 2010 he became a renowned, trailblazing worship leader during the rise of prophetic worship between 2007-2016, appearing on #1 Billboard compilation albums and actively touring all across the world alongside premiere Christian artists. As a worship leader his unique leadership and style inspired a generation of singer songwriters, creating space for all that came behind him, especially Black & Brown voices In 2017-2021 WMIII joined as host of the groundbreaking and highly popular Liturgist Podcast where he emerged as a clarion voice attempting to break down barriers between race, sexuality and gender. His advocacy for climate justice and social change within institutional Christianity and the political realm produced several documentaries and made him a sought after speaker in the early days of the "exvangelical" progressive Christian movement. As an independent music artist WMIII clever pop lyricism, insatiable melodic charm & genre bending eclectic sensibilities are why 15 years later his art stands apart amidst his peers. And in 2023 he continues to evolve and push boundaries where he sees fit, all on his terms. WMIII resides in Los Angeles, California where he's frequenting The Hollywood Bowl and readying his much anticipated third full length album, set to release in 2024.
