Gabe Sarnoff grew up in West Los Angeles. He learned guitar in high school and played bass in the band Silent Partner, which he formed with some friends. In the last two years of high school, he learned upright bass and played in the school's ensemble. After graduating high school, Gabe attended UC Berkeley where he double majored in Music and Cognitive Science. He found his way into the experimental jazz world, studying under Ben Goldberg and Myra Melford. After graduating college, he is now pursuing music full time.
