Enter VirgoTwins, the collaborative project of MC Gilead 7 and producer Boricua Sandy. Both Chicagoans born in September and sharing a love for the essence of the Culture, the two met in the Southern California underground hip-hop scenes. After years of knowing each other peripherally, the duo conjoined in the span of a few months to create ArtSpace, an impactful record that mystically came together out of nowhere. Boricua Sandy's lush and intelligent instrumental production has seen two very well-received releases through FiveSe7ven Collective, namely her collaboration with J57, [beat tape], and with her most recent offering, Indigenous Goddess. Gilead is a member of the infamous Chicago Hip-Hop collective Tomorrow Kings (Skech185, Jyroscope, Lamon Manuel, etc.), and has released a slew of internationally distributed and acclaimed projects. Gilead is also Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. With such deep diverse yet similar resumes, Boricua Sandy and Gilead7 are ready for the world to hear them unified as the VirgoTwins. In the spirit of the introspective Virgo, ArtSpace is a ten-song meditation that returns us to the days of Atmosphere's Overcast and Sonic Sum's The Sanity Annex. Reminiscent of the early 2000s era of underground hip-hop while forging their own fluid identity, ArtSpace is the quintessential album of the shadows for all turntables in 2023.
