He relocated to Sydney in the late 80's . He was a finalist in the NZ music awards in 1984 and 1988. Gillespie has shared the stage with artists such as Suzanne Vega, Chris Whitley, Colin Hay, Stan Ridgeway, Dave Dobbyn, Neil Finn and Margaret Urlich.
