KRETEK is a beatmaker from Frankfurt, Germany. His name comes from Indonesian clove cigarettes, to which he used to be addicted for quite some time. While that addiction is gone, another one, beatmaking, remains highly acute. With his organic sound, creative sample flips and sound selection, he quickly became part of the starting line up of the Oiyo collective. Since then, an EP and two albums have been produced in cooperation with the Frankfurt label. His musical influences include legendary producers like Madlib and Dilla as well as representatives of the younger beatmaker scene like Ahwlee or Knxwledge. His sound is based on jazz, soul-ish & obscure music from all over the world, into which the beatmaker breathes new life in solo or feature productions. Fotos: lieblafotografie.com
