Born in the coastal city of Wilmington, NC, and later raised in Durham, NC, groovy soul has a captivating way to showcase his skillset. Coming from a family of creators & musicians, groovy cycled through poetry, spoken word, painting, sketching, music production, before he landed on songwriting. Inspired by OutKast, Tupac, Kanye West, J. Cole, Travis Scott, 6lack & Kendrick Lamar, groovy found a way to combine those sounds and create a lane of his own. Raised on music that carried tones of social awareness, political topics, & showcased the technical ability of wordsmiths, groovy reflects this via his own words and experiences. Soul has gone on to release a string of increasingly confident, and ambitious projects over the years: 2016's emotionally charged Before I Commit Suicide, 2017's Nightfall gave the world a look into how depression and negativity can affect one's outlook. 2018's Skywalker gave us a new approach on how groovy projected his creativity. Trading in his dagger sharpened bars for smooth, soft spoken melodies on songs like "I'll be there for you", "Young Queen III & IV", with only a glimpse of hip hop shining through on "The Beautiful View of the Damned". After "Skywalker EP, groovy soul had entered a quiet retirement from music, opting to further develop other artists with their crafts and appearing every once in a while via features. Since 2020, groovy soul has slowly made his presence known once again that he is back. And more confident than ever.
