Sketch describe themselves as “mutant ceilidh techno” but fRoots magazine have also offered a simpler description of an “electro / techno / trad collective” 😉 They released their first album ‘Shed Life’ in May 2012 Sketch which represented about a year’s work. This was followed by a tour of Canada, a sensational appearance at Heb Celt festival and a couple of stonking gigs at Hogmanay. Sketch spent lots of time on the road in 2013 and 2014 which included Knoydart Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Knockengorroch as well as recording a wee EP as a wee taster of the second album. 2015 was a busy year! The ‘difficult second album’, as they described it, ‘Highland Time’ was launched in June and has received some great reviews from various publications including fRoots magazine and The Herald. Iain has also been working as the Musical Director for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s interpretation of RL Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. The production knits together Sketch tunes from both albums with ambient instrumentals that Iain has adapted for the project. With a fantastic gigs at Feis Na Mara, The Ceilidh Place and Celtic Connections, Sketch are now looking forward to recording their 3rd album for release in 2019.
