MAIKA - that's the name of the new band around singer Maika Küster. For years head of the formation »Der weise Panda«, she collaborated also in various solo, duo and trio projects. Her voice right in the fragile, melancholic or powerful heart of the songs. The words she sings or speaks are encircling death and transience. In other times also growing lust and sensuality and something in between. Human reality is too close to her to slip into spirituality. Humanity and poetry, as in the writings and actions of dear comrades like Rosa Luxemburg, combative and full of love. MAIKA’s music is a search for moments that counteract the inevitable end. Moments in which the musicians and listeners can feel briefly confirmed that life's hard work was and is worth it. Over and over again. A friend of Maika once said that her music could bring loved ones back from the realm of the dead. Music that makes space to breathe again, at times dodgy and menacing, on a search for the magical realities that we can oppose to the ephemeral abyss of our human existence.
