The foundations of Die Stadt’s music is the European electronic music tradition: classics such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk or Vangelis, the ambient and downtempo styles of Solar Fields, Aes Dana or Carbon Based Lifeforms and the IDM beats of Bromo or Ocoeur. The subject in Die Stadt’s works is mainly (although not only) the city (‘die Stadt’ means ‘the city’ in German), taking inspiring elements from the urban environment and playing with them conceptually, through music and sound. The idea is to put electronic music into environments and concepts where its presence is not usual. Following this pattern, Die Stadt has played its music in bookstores, art galleries and even the prestigious MIMMA (Interactive Museum of Music in Málaga). In 2018 the theme ‘Praha’ by Die Stadt was awarded as finalist of the I Synthetic Generation Awards, a price awarded by a jury of prestigious figures in the Spanish electronic music scene. In 2019 the Cantillana City Council and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Cantillana (Seville, Spain) recognized Die Stadt for its “valuable contribution to the dissemination of Cantillana’s Historical Heritage with the artistic project ‘Inside the Mosaic’“, a multimedia project (consisting on music and a website) for the dissemination of knowledge about the so called ‘Dolphin Mosaic’, a mosaic of the Roman Era found in this town in 2018.
