Biography

Catalan oboist Josep Julià studied for many years in Amsterdam with the famous Dutch oboist Han de Vries. He has been oboe solist in the Orquestra del Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona). The collaboration he began with prestigious organist Montserrat Torrent (duo oboe&òrgan) allowed him to perform in a number of Festivals. Their CD “L’esplendorós Barroc” has won unanimous critical acclaim. With his wife, the pianist Josefina Rius, they form a duo since 1984 and have performed at numerous festivals and concerts. They have premiered compositions by Catalan composers who have also dedicated their works to them such as Josep Soler, Joaquim Homs or Albert Guinovart, and also they rediscovered, performed and recorded the music of the romantic oboist and composer Pere Soler i Soler (1810-1850). In 1986 he gained de post of professor of oboè at the Conservatory of Music of Barcelona. More information on personal website: www.rius-julia.cat
