Legendary London MC Ben "Doc Brown" Smith, widely known for his work as a comedian and actor, began his career as an underground rapper, revered for his prowess as a battler, a host of hip hop events and a highly skilled scribe of witty and thought provoking lyrics. On his return to rap music we find a grown up Doc who has lost none of his hunger, collaborating with a wealth of musicians to give his new sound a timeless twist of classic hip hop and organic instrumentation. His passion and ability is self evident on his latest offering "Stemma", but more importantly the songs themselves show no attempt to sound "relevant" or emulate others who may be "on trend"; they are simply a consistent string of what it's safe to call "bangers". This is an artist with a sense of nothing to lose and a searing and often brutal honesty that shines through every word. The same ease with which one might laugh at his critically acclaimed comedy will be found in the enjoyment of a rap artist reborn- and that's no joke.
