North Of Kallio Ensemble is a Helsinki based jazz ensemble founded in 2019. We would describe our music as Nordic jazz with cinematic soundscapes. You can hear influences from our members musical journeys throughout the years. We are: Lasse Piirainen (piano/keys) Jennie Storbacka (vocals) Ville Herrala (bass) and Tuomas Timonen (drums). The name, North Of Kallio Ensemble, comes from a play on SoHo (South of Houston Street) in New York. Kallio, like SoHo in NY used to be, is a kind of bohemian part of the city that is open minded, where musicians and all kinds of artist come together to celebrate art and life. When we started this band, all of us lived north of this are, so therefore we became North Of Kallio Ensemble, simple as that. Our first single “Ferris Wheel” was released 18 th of November 2022 by Eclipse Music Finland. The single features Jukka Eskola on flugelhorn. Jukka was just chosen as jazzmusician of the year in Finland 2022 and we are so happy to have him play on this track!
