Biography

Riding nonstop through the cumbia land, FRENTE CUMBIERO has set to explore the sonic identity that cumbia represents for Latin America.  Led by Mario Galeano Toro, Colombian composer and producer also co-founder of Los Pirañas and Ondatrópica, FRENTE CUMBIERO is recognized as a spearhead of the new cumbia movement in Colombia. Having performed on stages in Latin America, Africa, Europe, United States, Russia, Japan, Australia and New Zealand and with vinyl 33 and 45 rpm releases by labels from USA (Names You Can Trust), UK (Soundway), Spain (Vampisoul), Mexico (La Roma) and Japan (Okra), FRENTE CUMBIERO through their forward thinking projects and collaborations with legendary musicians such as Mad Professor, Kronos Quartet or Minyo Crusaders have proved to be on the path of expanding cumbia and latin music frontiers.  Onstage, the quartet formation focuses on the heavier hitting side of tropical sounds for the dancefloor, combining reeds, live percussion and a solid electronics, synths and sequences dubbed live. Active for more than 10 years and way beyond the concept of cumbia as fashion, FRENTE CUMBIERO are true followers and keepers of the guacharaca calling.  Expect two new albums in 2020: the EP Minyo Cumbiero and their sophomore LP Cera Perdida. Out now.
