For what started as a twitter name and a sentiment for his love of waffles, smoothwaffle has become a name of significance within today’s climate of contemporary hip-hop. Hailing from Newport News, VA, Berlin…! always found music to be a connection. 2006 cemented the beginning of his journey as a producer when being introduced to FL Studio, later taking rap seriously in 2010. Originally born in Germany as a military child, he was inspired by the struggles and history of the Berlin Wall which demonstrated a huge separation amongst its people during the Cold War. Sean Mentis would embrace the alias Berlin...! as an ode to breaking the barriers of self exploration. After graduating from Denbigh High School, he would leave Newport News to make way to Philadelphia in 2011. He would learn how to engineer attending The Art Institute of Philadelphia as an Audio Production major, graduating in 2015. Within a decade he’d cement himself as an enigma amongst the Philly music scene, producing and engineering for countless artists. Frequent collaborators consist of Rae.Dianz, Reek HellaSmoke, Kause, Illadel, Kagiso, Terrence Harris and Sonya's Son to name a few. With 3 solo projects, a collab album under the guise WaffleSmoke...! and a multitude of songs on SoundCloud, smoothwaffle continues to push the envelope not limiting himself to a genre, balancing consciousness with brash juxtaposition. His fourth studio project “titled TRiUMPH…!” is slated for release later this year.
