Biography

AntiFrantik is a breath of fresh air in the thick smog of the Six. Hailing from the north end of the city, his deep and rugged tonality leaves the impression that he may feel more comfortable in battle than in North York. His voice, when partnered with his orchestral and often euphonic production represents an acute dichotomy. It is very evident that AntiFrantik is not your average rapper. AntiFrantik’s lyricism boasts a broad diversity as he dips into everything from profound storytelling to sincere stream-of-consciousness. His versatility truly shines when visiting his impressive and prolific back-catalogue of conceptual projects. With entire works drawing inspiration from anime, Afro-culture, politics and fashion, AntiFrantik’s pieces tend to grow and gather new meaning with each listen. AntiFrantik is a multi-talented artist who refuses to limit himself to the single facet of MCing. When he isn’t painting vivid scenes over crisp, dark production or sculpting conceptual hip-hop symphonies, he is collaborating with critically-acclaimed fashion designers; or penning screenplays, comic book scripts and short stories. And if you have the opportunity to catch one of his furtive shows, take it. AntiFrantik arrived on the scene in 2006 with The Powers EP, and has since released a multitude of loosies, EPs and LPs. “That Savage Beast”, one of his many collaborations with Toronto emcee-producer Prolific, appears on the soundtrack for the award-winning short film Black Cop.
