Biography

Aaron Gozum is an independent singer songwriter based in California. While Aaron’s music draws inspiration from his days in choir and childhood listening to musical theatre, his experiences living in California and New York and growing up as a queer person of color have shaped his songwriting into a creative process of storytelling, healing and connection. As Aaron's first album Heartstrings brought together a collection of songs to tell a love story in a sort of musical cadence by paying homage to his choral days through counter-harmonies and motifs. His album Apollo's Refuge is a collaborative response to the unprecedented times of 2020 and an allegory through Greek mythology that seeks to craft a musical refuge for those who feel lost, afraid and in need of solace. In this album, many singers and songwriters have joined along to create this musical refuge including Emily Teixeira, Allison Gozum, Michelle Zabarte, Selma Grytzell, and Xac Provost. Dreams is an EP dedicated to Angelo Quinto a Filipino American who lost his life due to negligent policing. Winter Love is Aaron’s EP of holiday-themed songs drawing on the electronic bedroom pop genre of his first album. Aaron's music is largely inspired by Sara Bareilles, Carole King, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, the Bleachers, Emily King, The Beatles, and Elton John. Inspired by activists and community organizers, Aaron’s music seeks to open doors to unexpected directions to make more just forms of sociality thinkable.
