Anchored in their love for the stranger and more introspective end of 90’s alt rock, Copenhagen trio Inventory have crafted a sound equally inspired by the slow hymns of Red House Painters and the playful, jazzy post-rock of Tortoise. The result is a take on guitar driven rock, that is full of unexpected turns but still feels oddly soothing. Inventory is comprised of members of Town Portal, Deirdre, Trader and Mørkt Stof. Where these bands strive to impress using complexity, energy, and sheer volume, Inventory is an outlet for an altogether different kind of artistic impulse that harbors no ambition of being impressive at all. Patience, naive exploration, and immersion instead are the primary virtues. Still, some qualities of past and parallel bands are echoed in Inventory’s sound: a penchant for making music that feels heavy without being loud, and the ability to move effortlessly between dissonance and beauty. Their debut EP ‘Memory is a Plow’ (2023) was recorded in Copenhagen by the band’s guitarist and vocalist Christian Henrik Ankerstjerne and was mixed and mastered by Mark Roberts (Delta Sleep, Black Peaks). Two songs feature Irish/Australian singer Bonnie Stewart (Bonniesongs), whose unique layered vocals add a dreamy, optimistic color to the songs. This collaboration with Stewart reflects Inventory’s approach to the band as a continuously changing constellation, based around the three core members, but always seeking to explore new artistic input and directions.
