Regensburg (DE) based musician Markus Guentner is known for his deep, atmospheric and textured music, characterized by subtle but intense arcs of harmony and melody. The development of his sound already started with the first Kompakt release in 2000 (REGENSBURG EP) and the following debut album IN MOLL. From then on, the press called Guentner the “inventor of pop ambient”, which is quite justified due to the numerous performances in the pop ambient series curated by Wolfgang Voigt. After appearences on 4AD, GHOSTLY, AFFIN, WARE, etc. remixes/reworks for Sneaker Pimps, Hildegard Knef, etc. and collaborations with Rafael Anton Irisarri, Julia Kent, Joachim Spieth, bvdub etc. we can look back on a considerable discography. Since 2015, A STRANGELY ISOLATED PLACE has been Guentner’s musical home, where he released the trilogy of concept albums THEIA, EMPIRE and EXTROPY and more to come.
