Julian Ortiz Merino better know by his artist name JO Merino was born January 13, 1997 in Acapulco, Mexico. Before JO turned one his mothers eldest brother Pocho took him to the studio where he recorded music, foreshadowing JOs’ future 17 years later. At the age of 3 he moved to Florida USA, where he lived in public housing with his 4 cousins 3 uncles and aunt in a 1 bedroom housing unit. During this time JO was introduced to a new world, living in a different country where everyone spoke a foreign language. While JO was bullied in school for not speaking English. He found peace watching T.V, one day while he switched through the channels he stumbled upon channels like BET, MTV, VH1 where they showcased POP music. Even though young JO didn’t understand the language, he couldn’t help but dance and try an sing along. JO went on to wake up every morning at 5 a.m to watch the Top 10 song charts on VH1 and MTV, then tune in at 6 p.m to watch 106&Park Top 10 on BET. JO was introduced Hip Hop artist like OutKast, Eminem, 2pac, & The NOTORIOUS BIG, NWA and more. He was also introduced to every genre that appeared on those music channels in the early 2000s When JO turned 7 his mother bought him a desktop, and JO was introduced to YouTube. YouTube gave JO the ability to hear almost every song ever made. JOs curious mind at a young age made him always want to learn and understand music. So much that one day he typed in the search bar, “how to make music”.
