ZUZUKA PODEROSA is an Indo Sur America artist making music of the diaspora in cosmic new ways. Born in Espirito Santo, Brazil to a Brazilian mother and Indonesian father, she grew up in Rio and spent her formative years in the West Indies. Later, she studied Vocal Jazz improvisation in New York City while she worked on her music and poetry. She has since remained in New York City and successfully grew the underground Baile Funk and Global Bass scene. She raps and sings in Portuguese, Spanish, English, which she masterfully sets over booming electric beatsand Latin percussion. "It took mere minutes for Zuzuka to get the 2.000-plus crowd up on their feet." - LA Weekly She has collaborated with a long list of artists such as Gregor Salto, Marcelo D2, Anahi, Gnucci, Dave Nada, DJ Rekha, Jubilee, and DJ Edgar. Being named one of the ‘Best Beats of Summer 2011’ by NPR & KCRW’s top 30 songs 3 weeks in a row, her work has been featured on multiple media outlets including MTV, NPR, PRI’s The World, and Okay Africa. Her music has been featured on TV shows such as Netflix's "Jane The Virgin," CBS "Elementary," Hulu's "East Los High," Fox "Rosewood, “Saints Row” videogame, “Big Brother” Brazil & “The Suicide Squad” 2021 movie. Zuzuka has lectured at NYU for “Contemporary Brazilian Music” led by Professor Jason Stanyek and was also featured in Béco Dranoff’s documentary, 'BEYOND IPANEMA: Brazilian Waves In Global Music,' which focuses on the global influence of Brazilian music.
