Biography

Julie Berthollet is a French violinist and pianist known for her collaborations with her younger sister Camille in a string duo. She was born in Mauritius in 1997, and she moved with her family to Annecy, France when she was very young. Berthollet became interested in the violin when she was two years old; she began violin lessons when she was four, and started on piano in 2005. The following year, she won the first prize in the Vattelot-Rampal competition and she attended the Violonissimo school under Hong-Anh Shapiro. Berthollet also received instruction from Mimi Zweig at Indiana University, the Zakhar Bron School of Music in Zurich, the Amadeus School in Vienna, and from Augustin Dumay at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. Similarly gifted academically, she earned her high school baccalaureate at the age of 15 and completed her bachelor’s degree in the late 2010s at the Haute école de musique de Genève under Mihaela Martin. Following piano studies with Mayumi Kameda in Geneva, she was the first prize winner of the 2015 CMG Piano competition in Geneva, and she won the young accompanist prize several times at the annual Swiss Youth Competition. In a duo with her sister Camille, she won numerous awards in competitions from 2011 to 2015, and they released Camille & Julie Berthollet in 2016. This was followed by #3 in 2017, Entre 2 in 2018, and the 2020 release The Four Seasons of Camille & Julie. In an homage to their favorite themes from film and television, they released Series in 2021. Dans Nos Yeux from 2023 includes an eclectic program of original compositions, and arrangements of pieces by artists such as J.S. Bach, Queen, and Stéphane Grappelli. ~ RJ Lambert, Rovi
