Biography

Ronit Sarkar is a Mumbai Based Singer/Songwriter, Music Producer, Filmmaker and Photographer who goes by the stage name “Rono”. He began singing and playing the piano at a young age, but only developed a long term interest in music when he picked up the guitar at 13. Despite feeling societal pressure to specialize in one field over the years, he has come to realize that he much prefers switching between, and even blending his creative worlds. He identifies as a polymath, aiming to tell stories through music, film, and photography. Rono is self-taught in writing, producing, and mixing his own music. He is also trained in Hindustani Classical music, and plays several instruments including the guitar, bass, keyboard, and mandolin. With a career spanning almost a decade, Rono's original music has garnered critical acclaim over the years. In 2015, he released his debut album, "In the Brightest Corners," under his previous moniker 'Awkward Bong.' While he still uses the name for his lens work, he decided a few years ago to start fresh with a new artist name. Subsequently, he released two Hindi singles in 2018, "Main Aur Tum" and "Yaadon Ka Bundergah," followed by the 2021 two-track acoustic EP titled "Postcards" and a single titled "Like a Love Song." In 2022, he released a 2-track EP, "Sienna Tapes," and two singles, "Like a Love Song" and "I Saw You In a Dream." In the first half of 2023, he released his third Hindi single, "Raat,".
