Biography

Asher Fisch is an Israeli conductor, equally known for his operatic and symphonic work. Starting as an assistant to Daniel Barenboim, Fisch went on to be the associate conductor of the Berlin State Opera. In 1995, he conducted Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer at the Los Angeles Opera, and over the next five years he served as chief conductor of the Wiener Volksoper. He was also the music director of the Israeli Opera from 1998 to 2008, and he became the principal guest conductor of the Seattle Opera in 2007, where he conducted Wagner's Ring cycle in the composer's bicentennial year. Since 2014, Fisch has been the principle conductor and artistic advisor of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth. Admired for his thorough knowledge of the Romantic and post-Romantic repertoire, Fisch is most often heard conducting the music of Wagner, Brahms, Strauss, and Verdi.
