Biography

Based in Flaxmere, Hastings, Kastro began his Hip-Hop journey when he moved to the Hawkes Bay suburb in 2006 with nothing more than make-shift equipment among humble surroundings & good friends. Those early years provided the foundation to hone his skills as an MC, as Kastro, Originally from Whanganui, set out to let his name be heard. Armed with only a pad & a pen, Kastro was a dangerous MC with overwhelming potential. But with zero experience in production and very limited resources, he had to start from the bottom & learn how to construct his music first hand. Between 2006-2011 he had learned how to create his own instrumentals, improving with each year. Slowly his music began to gain traction with few songs being made popular on the streets of all neighboring hoods. Street anthems, "Disterbing The Peace" & "Hood Iz A Trap" were well suited with the young street demographic while the contrasting dedication songs, "FTP" & "Westlyd" done in memory of one of his late friends, resonated with a more mature audience & demonstrated his capability to go beyond the boundaries of the street subject matter that majority of his work was based upon. His first rise to prominence on the Hawkes Bay Hip-Hop scene came with the 2013 release of his first major local single, "Keep Coming", quickly gaining the admiration of many local artists. By this time, he had linked up with "Making Moves" founder, Lartal, who was a regular name on the local music scene often seen on posters promoting....
