Daniel Payne (formerly known as KD) was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He gained an underground following as a result of releasing over 14 original mixtapes and albums independently. His sound is influenced heavily by the sounds of classic Southern Hip Hop. Laid-back cruising music, street game, bluesy melodies and even thought provoking lyrical content are all in Daniel Payne's repertoire. His song "Polo & Nikes" was discovered by Dj Burn One on MySpace in 2007. This led to KD releasing his 2007 mixtape Last Man Standing, Playa Prezident in 2008, Untouchable and Soul Inn in 2009, and the best of KD in 2010. In 2011, he released G-Fluid . G-Fluid was critically acclaimed and featured the underground classic with Freddie Gibbs, "Let Me Ride". The following year, he released Crown Me. In 2013, he released Diary of a Trill Nigga (Deluxe), then Space Age Southern Playalistic Country Rap in 2015 and Green Acres in 2016. In 2019 after a 3 year hiatus, he formally announced a name change from KD to Daniel Payne and released an EP entitled 3rd Coastin' on Purple Waves that included a slowed version with Slim K. His first album, Purple Onion was successful and was followed by The 4ep and 5 Points. On 5 Points, he reunited with Dj Burn One and also featured Big K.R.I.T. and G Perico. His latest release Players Only features Lil' Flip, Duke Deuce, Premo Rice, Scotty Atl, Akeem Ali, the Dungeon Family's Big Rube and takes you on a ride through the South.
