Biography

It all began with a faulty translation:
A drunk and stoned Polish monk transcribed philosophical scrolls from India and made Staro Robota – which means „old work“ in Polish – into „Astroboter“. This mistake soon became a myth take and found its way into the people‘s folklore, turning this metaphysical energy into the form of a robot, who is able to discharge the energies of good and evil. A role Astroboter accepted eventually.
The music reflects the mythical story of Astroboter. Employing musical means like Hip Hop, Krautrock, Ambient and Post Rock, the music evokes antique episodes and ponders timeless questions with its very own kind of sonic soundscapes and trickery. Sound textures and melodies of guitars, synthesizers and surreal sounds are layered over dusty and crackling beats. The music palette of Astroboter is as rich as a druids magic essence casket.
David Weicht is the human behind Astroboter. Born in Upper Silesia, raised in the German suburb Eicker Wiesen, he has been working under this moniker since 2005. Inspired by musical greats like Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, John Frusciante or DJ Shadow, he mixes various concepts when it comes to composing and producing music.
Astroboter received positive reviews by producers like Blockhead or Breaking Bad composer Dave Porter, gained spins on playlists worldwide and toured South America in 2018. In 2020 he teamed up with Grammy Award mastering engineer Mandy Parnell (Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Björk) on Fearmonger.
